First Communion Class Saturday, March 31, 9-11am

First Communion Class is March 31 from 9-11 am.  Registration forms are at the Ministry Corner.  First Communion will be on Maundy Thursday, April 5th at 7 pm, and will be preceded at 5:30 pm by a "Seder," which is the Jewish meal Jesus ate with his disciples to celebrate the Passover on the night he was betrayed (the Last Supper).  First communicants and their families and friends are encouraged to attend this meal prior to the first communion service.  Age of first communion at Living Waters is up to the parent(s) of each child, and varies from about 4 years old to 6th grade (or older).  An adult is required to attend the class with each child.   If you have questions on the age your child should receive first communion, feel free to talk to one of the pastors.  

 

What is Communion? (also called "The Lord's Supper" or "The Eucharist")
Communion is the body and blood of Christ present within the earthly elements of bread and the wine, instituted by Christ himself at the Last Supper for Christians to eat and drink. The words “given for you” and “shed for you for the forgiveness of sins” show us that forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation are given to us in the sacrament through these words, because where there is forgiveness of sin, there is also life and salvation. As Lutherans, we believe the eating and drinking of the elements, accompanied by the words of institution, actually bestows upon us the forgiveness of sins - a tangible and physical way through which we are able to experience God's wondrous grace.


What is First Communion?
First Communion is a time when children (or adults) are taught the meaning and purpose behind the Lord's Supper. After taking a class on what Lutherans believe about communion, children (or adults) are invited to partake in their "First Communion," a special Sunday set aside for those who feel they are prepared to partake in the Lord's Supper. The class is offered two times a year. Contact the church office to find out when the next class will be offered.
